Daun Fund

Indiana Youth Group is a non-profit organization providing a safe place, a confidential environment, youth development programs and support services which foster personal strength and wellness among self-identified lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning young people. IYG advocates on their behalf in schools, on the streets, and in the community.

Friends and family of Daunita M. Ringham established The Daun Fund in January of 2004 to honor Daun's memory and to provide funds to support audio/video projects by and for the youth of IYG. Daun's interest in films and theatre took root early in her life, as she wrestled with self-identity and searched for support and acceptance. She sought refuge in watching TV and movies. In high school, Daun volunteered for stage crew and was often stage manager of school plays (productions). After taking a few theater courses at Ball State University, Daun left college to pursue her interest in television. Television jobs with small stations in Petersburg, Virginia and Chattanooga, Tennessee led to the film editor position with a newly created station in Indianapolis, WPDS (now WXIN) Channel 59. For the next decade, Daun worked at Channel 59 (refusing to edit dance numbers from musicals!) and returned to her interest in theater. With a variety of opportunities in Indianapolis, Daun provided stage crew support for productions at The Phoenix Theater and Civic Theater as well as for Branching Out Productions.

When Daun's life ended in 1992, she was pursuing her dream of starting a production company. Through The Daun Fund, we hope to both honor her life and fulfill her hopes to make a difference in fostering equality, acceptance, and diversity.
