IYG's What It's Like to Be Me: An Interactive LGBTQ Cultural Competency
is a 4-hour, interactive training, where each participant receives the demographics of an LGBTQ+ youth to help experience the information given through the youth's perspective

Training Objectives:

  • Increase knowledge of terms, concepts, and issues in the LGBTQ community 
  • Understand the need to respect and support LGBTQ+ individuals and their families
  • Balance one's cultural, religious, and moral background with one's professionalism to do no harm
  • Identify current areas of strength and areas of needed improvement to best support LGBTQ+ in the workplace, school, and community develop an action plan for those environments, to move towards 'Best Standards of Care' for LGBTQ youth, adults, and families, including best practice information from Title IX for schools and Section 1557 of Affordable Care Act for health care even though both of the above are currently being re-examined by the U.S. government, they are still considered "best practices" in education and healthcare

 

Trans Cultural Competency in Health Care: Training to Improve Care, Health, and Mental Health Outcomes for Transgender and Gender Expansive Clients

Training Objectives:

  • Ability to use Section 1557 of the Affordable Care Act as best practices for working with transgender and gender expansive healthcare clients
  • Understanding terms, phrases, and concepts needed when helping transgender and gender expansive healthcare clients
  • Understanding key issues facing transgender and gender expansive individuals at large and how those issues may create barriers to seeking and receiving healthcare
  • Identify the areas of strengths and areas of needed improvement to best serve transgender and gender expansive clients
  • Developing an action plan for your workplace to move towards industry 'Best Standards of Care' for transgender and gender expansive clients


3.75 CEUs available, pending approval by National Association of Social Workers-Indiana (NASW-IN) CEUs only available with advance registration
