IYG 2020 Annual Report

2020 was an unprecedented year. No one escaped the effects of the pandemic and LGBTQ+ youth unfortunately felt the impact harder than most. That is why Indiana Youth Group has worked tirelessly to keep our doors open, continue serving youth, and meet them where they are.

Our response to the pandemic began with Virtual IYG, a program that connects youth with our staff and their peers in a safe, responsible manner. This program expands the reach of IYG to new youth outside of the Indianapolis area and provides a safe “cyberspace” for them to interact and just be in these isolating times. Virtual IYG will remain active permanently to connect LGBTQ+ youth across Indiana and beyond. Of course, virtual services only go so far. Many have experienced unemployment, reduced income, and homelessness. Therefore, we continue offering our Basic Needs in person, regularly distributing care packages filled with food and other necessary items. However, our most impactful initiative was probably Project Prism, a rapid rehousing program for moving LGBTQ+ young adults into their own homes. With basic needs fulfilled, many can build necessary life skills and improve their circumstances. To aid in this, our case managers work with clients to create individualized action plans and provide life skills training, which allows them to become independent and happy adults.

I am immensely proud of the work we have done this last year; however, many youth still need support, and we need your help. Covid-19 has greatly impacted how we raise funds. We have been unable to host many of our in-person fundraisers, which typically make up a significant portion of our annual revenue. Our biggest fundraiser of the year, the Art Auction, had to move to a virtual format, which greatly reduced its potential. That is why I ask you to join IYG in supporting these youth and saving lives. Every contribution helps build safer spaces and improve the community for our youth. Again, I urge you to please give generously. It will mean more to an LGBTQ+ young person than you could ever know. Please click the button below to donate now.
