Indiana Youth Group (IYG) has been awarded the Kicking the Stigma Action Grant by the Indianapolis Colts Foundation. This grant is awarded to nonprofit organizations and community institutions providing mental health services, as well as raising awareness and breaking down the stigma surrounding mental illness and care. This is IYG’s first year receiving the award.
This grant of nearly $140,000 will directly support IYG’s Mental and Behavioral Health Services provided to youth and young adults. The grant will fund a major expansion of the program’s capacity, services, and resources, including the addition of a full-time therapist to the organization’s staff.
The 2021 National Survey on LGBTQ Youth Mental Health from The Trevor Project found that 42% of LGBTQ+ youth seriously considered suicide in the past year, including more than half of transgender and nonbinary youth. Nearly half of all LGBTQ+ youth surveyed expressed having a need for mental health counseling but did not receive it. Therefore, IYG has resolved to expand their mental and behavioral health support services.
Indiana Youth Group extends greatest and sincerest thanks to the Indianapolis Colts Foundation for their continued support. We are profoundly grateful to have such a terrific community partner to make the expansion of this program a reality. About IYG
Indiana Youth Group (IYG) serves young people ages 12-24 who self-identify as LGBTQ+, as well as their allies. All programs and services are offered free of charge.
IYG strives to provide safer spaces to build self-confidence, explore individualism, and develop friendships within the LGBTQ+ community.
