LGBTQ+ Cultural Competency
IYG's LGBTQ+ Cultural Competency Training is a safe, non-judgmental and interactive space to openly ask and discuss any questions or concerns participants have about working with and supporting youth and adults who self-identify as Lesbian, Gay, Transgender, Bisexual, Queer, Questioning, or other gender identities and sexual/romantic orientations. With a focus on creating safe spaces, we discuss some basic concepts of intersecting identities, learn latest best practices in working with LGBTQ+ youth and adults, as well as direct implications to apply to their professional role.
Trans Cultural Competency for Providers
IYG's Transgender Cultural Competency Training for Healthcare Providers is a safe, non-judgmental place to discuss questions participants have about working with and supporting patients or their family members who may self-identify as transgender and/or gender nonconforming. With a focus on creating safe spaces and becoming a safe provider, we discuss the concepts of Assigned Sex at Birth, Gender, Romantic Attraction and Sexual Attraction.
Participants learn statistics and personal stories about barriers transgender and gender nonconforming individuals face when seeking treatment for physical and mental health issues, and the changes clinics can do to be more welcoming and affirming. Relevant resources in the latest best practices for working with transgender youth and adults are also provided.
