INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – June 23, 2021 – Regions Bank on Wednesday announced the latest in a series of steps to advance LGBTQ+ inclusion throughout the Circle City. Through a combination of impactful contributions to community organizations, as well as the bank’s ongoing focus on advancing diversity, equity and inclusion, Regions is working to create a more welcoming society where all people have access to opportunities to succeed and prosper.
The latest contribution is a $15,000 grant from the bank to Indiana Youth Group (IYG) whose focus involves creating safer spaces to foster community and providing programming to empower LGBTQ+ youth and magnify their voices. IYG serves young people ages 12 to 24 who self-identify at LBGBTQ+ and their allies. All IYG programs and services are offered at no cost. Regions’ donation will specifically support Project Prism, a rapid rehousing initiative IYG conducts in partnership with HealthNet’s Homeless Initiative Program (HIP). Established in October of 2020, Project Prism covers housing, rent and case management support for up to three years for young adults ages 18 to 24 experiencing homelessness. Project Prism also empowers LGBTQ+ youth through its Independent Living and Life Skills (ILLS) program which supports continuing education and provides employment skills, home care and additional support needed to live independently. IYG collaborates with EmployIndy to provide workforce training to young adults in the program.
“Access to secure housing, education and job readiness training are key factors in determining future success,” said Erik Miner, Central Indiana market executive for Regions Bank. “Indiana Youth Group and its community partners are helping LGBTQ+ youth achieve each of these through Project Prism; and, beyond that, these organizations are helping the youth they serve achieve a greater sense of confidence, stability and self-sufficiency as they look toward their futures. Regions Bank is incredibly proud to support IYG and Project Prism in our commitment to promoting and celebrating a more diverse, equitable and inclusive Indianapolis community.”
While June is recognized worldwide as Pride Month, Regions’ commitment to LGBTQ+ inclusivity is year-round. Additional details can be found at this link.
This commitment complements Regions’ overall community engagement strategy, which prioritizes community investments, volunteer service, and additional forms of support for a wide network of organizations that foster opportunities for more people to succeed. Key focus areas include supporting financial wellness, economic and community development, and education and workforce readiness. “Creating more inclusive prosperity is at the heart of who we are as a company, and that includes reaching members of the LGBTQ+ community with important services, financial insights and community support, all designed to help fulfill our mission to make life better for the people and places we serve,” said Brett Shaffer, corporate community relations manager for Regions Bank. “Our community partnerships in Indy and beyond reflect our commitment to serving as a valued financial services provider for people from all backgrounds. We look forward to building on our progress and community partnerships in the years to come.”
